Human Rights Violations and Struggle against Impunity
The solemn proclamation of human rights is contradicted by a painful reality of massive violations, spreading virtually all over the world in various dimensions, like new forms of slavery such as trafficking of human beings and child soldiers, wars and violence of every kind, mass deportation and genocides.
Highlights
• Within the international community, an International Criminal Court has been established, to punish those responsible for particularly serious acts such as genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and crimes of aggression. From the very beginning, Pax Christi International has supported and encouraged this initiative time and again.
• Pax Christi International is a member of the NGO Coalition for the International Criminal Court (ICC), focussing attention to ensure widespread ratification of the Rome Treaty and its effective implementation.
• Pax Christi has organised visits by politicians and civil society activists from Serbia-Montenegro to the International Tribunal on former Yugoslavia in The Hague.
