OUR WORK >> BY CONCERN
HUMAN RIGHTS
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and all other human rights instruments are the cornerstone documents of Pax Christi International’s work in the field of human rights. These human rights instruments and their covenants are based on a respect for human dignity and non-discrimination. Together with many others, the aim of Pax Christi International is to make the human rights treaties universally binding – and at the same time strengthening the effective implementation of all of them.
HUMAN SECURITY AND VIOLENCE
“Human security” is used as a concept to describe a complex set of inter-related security threats, to both the individual and the community. Sometimes fear stems from a struggle for political power, social inequality, natural resources and territory. Horizontal inequalities like inequalities between culturally defined communities, e.g. ethnic, religious, racial or caste-base communities, are a real concern for Pax Christi International.
DISARMAMENT AND DEMILITARISATION
Pax Christi International promotes sustainable security, rooted in justice and emancipation. The movement offers a forum at which the major global security issues can be analysed and discussed. As an international network, Pax Christi presents strategies and campaigns with regards to weapons of war, in all their forms, and their effects upon human security.
JUST WORLD ORDER
Our world is struggling to effectively address the needs of all peoples in the face of complex international globalilisation.
RELIGION AND VIOLENT CONFLICT
The theme of religion and violent conflict has become a predominant debate in international relations and the world media. Tensions in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and other conflict zones, and the present state of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict have made us aware of the complex inter-relationship between religion and violence.
