Marie Dennis (USA)

As director of the Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns, Marie Dennis is responsible for bringing the voice and experience of the Maryknoll missionaries and their commitment to peace, social justice and the integrity of creation into policy discussions in the U.S. and other governments, the World Bank, the IMF, the United Nations and the corporate world. She has a wealth of international experience, particularly in Latin America and Africa, and is author/co-author of several books on the spirituality of peace and social justice. The Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns is a member organisation of Pax Christi International. Marie Dennis has been a Pax Christi USA Ambassador of Peace. She has been a Member of the Executive Committee of Pax Christi International since 1999 and was Vice President until 3 November 2007. She serves Pax Christi International as Co-President since 2007.

Bishop Kevin Dowling (South Africa)

Bishop Kevin Dowling hails from South Africa and has been the Bishop to the Catholic Parliamentary Liaison Office since its inception 10 years ago. He has also helped to set up the National Catholic AIDS office in South Africa and helps to serve on its Management Committee. He was elected in 2003 as Chairman of the International Sudan Ecumenical Forum, through which he is actively involved in the Sudan Peace Process. He is also a Trustee of the Ecumenical Solidarity Peace Trust, which is actively involved in research and analysis of human rights abuse in Zimbabwe. Bishop Dowling played an important role in the First and Second Pax Christi Pan-African Regional Consultation, Pretoria, October 2000 and 2005, which were organised with the help of the South African Justice and Peace Commission, of which he was president for many years. He was elected to the Pax Christi International Executive Committee in 2004. Bishop Kevin Dowling began his tenure as elected Co-President of Pax Christi International in 2010.

Jan Peters SJ (Netherlands)

Jan Peters SJ is vice-president of Pax Christi Netherlands. In addition to his long term involvement with Pax Christi, he is also president curator of the Netherlands Institution for the Middle East in Leiden, member of the Board of the Dominican Study Centre for Theology and Society at Nijmegen and member of the Board of the University Centre St . Ignatius in Antwerp. Previously he was chair of the Council for the Humanities in the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, and was a member of the Research Council for the Humanities in the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research. Jan Peters SJ has served as chair of the Board of Trustees of the Amsterdam School of Catholic Theology, where he also participated in committees for dialogue with Islam and dialogue with eastern churches. For six years he served as president of the International Federation of Catholic Universities, after three years as president of the Federation of Catholic Universities in Europe. He was elected to the Executive Committee in 2010.

Maria Luisa Da Silva (Portugal)

Maria Luisa is a member of the Executive Committee of Pax Christi Portugal and has degrees in International Relations, Sociology of Religions and Culture, and Human Ecology and Contemporary Social Problems. She is a lecturer at the University of Algarve and has a PhD in Rural and Migrations Sociology. She has developed several actions in the field of the annual peace week, dialogue with creation, globalisation and international migrations. Her areas of interests are in migrations, ecology, education for peace and a culture for peace. She is the author of Agenda of Peace 2006. She has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2007.

Katarina Kruhonja (Croatia)

Katarina Kruhonja received her diploma as a medical practitioner from the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb, Croatia and she later specialised in nuclear medicine. In 1992, she became Head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the Clinical Hospital in Osijek, where she worked until 1996. She was one of the co-founders of the Centre for Peace, Non-violence and Human Rights – Osijek in 1992 (a Pax Christi International Member Organisation), as well as of the Croatian Helsinki Assembly for Human Rights in 1993. In 1996, she completely devoted herself to a post-war peace building in war-torn areas of Eastern Slavonia during the process of peaceful reintegration. She trained and mentored multi-ethnic peace teams, which were supporting a peaceful return and reconstruction of ten communities in Eastern Croatia that had been destroyed during the war. During the last several years, she has been devoted to the regional co-operation on dealing with the past in the processes of establishing a sustainable peace. She has been actively involved in the initiatives and operations of several peace organisations and NGO networks. She was elected to the Executive Committee in 2007.

Kevin McBride (Aotearoa/New Zealand)

Kevin McBride is a founding member of Pax Christi Aotearoa/New Zealand. He was a member of the New Zealand Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace from 1983 – 93 and during that time gained extensive experience related to justice and peace issues in the Asia-Pacific Region. Since helping to set up the New Zealand section of Pax Christi, he has represented New Zealand at the Triennial World Assemblies in Europe and the Middle East. He also represented Pax Christi International at a UN Year of Tolerance gathering in South Korea in 1995 and the Ecumenical Seminar on Arms Trade and Development in Brussels in 2005. He was awarded the New Zealand Human Rights Millennium Award for services to human rights activities in 2000. He was a founding member of the Asia-Pacific Coalition on East Timor and its successor, the Asia-Pacific Solidarity Coalition. Kevin McBride represented New Zealand NGOs at the Asia-Pacific Forum of Human Rights Institutions in Suva Fiji in August 2006 and is deeply committed to the growth of Pax Christi links in the Asia-Pacific region. He represented Pax Christi on visits to West Papua in 2005 and 2010. Kevin has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2007.

Hana Nassif (Lebanon)

Hana Nassif is the General Secretary of AJEM (Association Justice et Miséricorde) (Justice and Mercy Association), which is a Member Organisation of Pax Christi International. Having received comprehensive training in nursing and social work, as well as a PhD in Public Health, she has always sought to be at the service of vulnerable groups whose rights are not respected, so that Lebanese society might be more inclusive, tolerant and welcoming of diversity. In this context, she has filled several roles in different Lebanese NGOs and national networks (defending the rights of disabled people, those imprisoned under common law or as political prisoners, drug users, immigrants, AIDS sufferers etc.). In parallel to these commitments on the ground, Hana Nassif is a teacher and researcher at the St Joseph Institute of Beirut and at the Institute of Health and Social Security Management, whose mission seeks to ensure the right to health for all Lebanese people by promoting the values of solidarity, equal access to care, freedom of choice and quality services. She is active in the Regional Consultation of Pax Christi International for the Middle East as well as in organising visits of Pax Christi delegations to the country. She has been an Executive Committee member since 2007.

Msgr. Marc Stenger (France)

Monsignor Marc Stenger is the Bishop President of Pax Christi France and the Bishop of Troyes. He is responsible for the Commission of the Bishops’ Conference on the universal mission of the Church and has a responsibility towards the church in Latin America. Bishop Marc Stenger has Degrees in Literature and Theology. He participated in the fact-finding visit of Pax Christi International to Colombia in 2004 (a country which he frequently visits). The important aspects of his peace work include a sense for dialogue, good communications and championing freedom of opinion and expression. Monsignor Marc Stenger speaks out very clearly on issues of peace, justice, solidarity, environment, nuclear deterrence, the Israeli & Palestinian conflict and the death penalty. He is interested in European and international matters and frequently visits Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. He frequently visits Iraq in solidarity with the Christian communities. He is strongly in favour of ecumenical, interfaith and cultural exchanges in its diocese and at the national level. He has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2007.

Anna Moskwa (Poland)

Anna Moskwa is the Vice President of the European Meeting Centre – Nowy Staw Foundation which facilitates youth exchanges between Poland and Germany as well as other countries in Europe and the Caucasus. Furthermore, the organisation provides education and training for youth leaders. Through her work, Anna Moskwa coordinates both short and long term international projects which cover a range of topics including development, education, culture, and society. She also organises numerous conferences and seminars for representatives of various sectors on European integration and NGO management. She was elected to the Executive Committee in 2010.

Sr. Filo Hirota (Japan)

Filo Hirota is the international relations officer for the Catholic Council for Justice and Peace of the Episcopal Conference of Japan. Filo Hirota is also a board member of the Women’s Fund for Peace and Human Rights, and participates in the intercongregational JPIC (Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation) network in charge of the JPIC Peace Initiative ad-hoc working group. Previously she was chairperson of the Conference of Major Superiors of Women Religious of Japan, which organised peace action for nuclear disarmament in conjunction with the Leadership Conference of Women Religious of the U.S.A. She was also Assistant Executive Secretary at the Office for Human Development of the Federation of Asian Bishops Conference in Manila. Filo Hirota is a member of the Mercedarian Missionaries of Berriz and has served in Bolivia, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Mexico. She was elected to the Executive Committee in 2010.

Mustafa Y. Ali (Kenya)

Mustafa Y. Ali is currently the Secretary General of the African Council of Religious Leaders – Religions for Peace (ACRL—RfP). He is also the Africa Representative of Religions for Peace International. He served as the Africa Director of the Arigatou Foundation from 2003 to 2007. He also helped found the Global Network of Religions for Children (GNRC), Africa Chapter, and serves as its Coordinator for Africa. Mustafa Ali holds an impressive record as a practitioner and researcher with extensive knowledge and experience in conflict transformation, peace building and multi-religious cooperation. He also has extensive media experience through his career as television and radio presenter, editor and media researcher on the developing nations’ media system. He has published many articles and papers in journals and conference proceedings. He was elected to the Executive Committee in 2010.

Wiltrud Rösch-Metzler (Germany)

Wiltrud Rösch-Metzler is the vice-president of Pax Christi Germany. Previously, she was chairperson of Pax Christi’s Middle East Commission for nine years. Her main interest is the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. With a background in political science and journalism she has worked as a freelance journalist focusing on issues such as fair trade, the North-South conflict, the Middle East, peace and social safety. Since 2001 she has been the editor of the several articles with regards to the ecumenical peace decade 2000-2009. She was elected to the Executive Committee in 2010.
