Sri Lanka: A petition to the President to prosecute perpetrators of torture

In commemoration of the International Day in Support of the Survivors of Torture, the Human Rights Office-Kandy of Sri Lanka, a Pax Christi International member organisation, launched a petition to the President and Attorney General of Sri Lanka. The plea called on the two authorities to prosecute torture perpetrators, noting that no new cases have been filed under the Torture Act for over 8 years. A signature campaign was launched on the theme, “Prosecute the Torture Perpetrators”. Sri Lanka has experienced a systematic increase in the use of torture as police brutality. Read more here.
