Pax Christi International welcomes two interns to Brussels office
26/3/18 - Over the past two months, Pax Christi International has welcomed two new interns to the office of the International Secretariat in Brussels: Corianne Nieuwenhuis (pictured on right) and Grace Zokovitch (pictured on left).
Corianne Nieuwenhuis is working as an advocacy intern supervised by Senior Advocacy Officer Alice Kooij Martinez. She is currently a student at Utrecht University in the Netherlands and her internship is part of her Masters on "Cultural History of Modern Europe". One of her tasks is working on a position paper on "Nonviolence as a style of politics", as well as doing research on the recent history of Central and Eastern Europe in preparations for Pax Christi International's future regional work in those areas.
"Although I still don’t know exactly what I want to do ‘when I am grown up’, I am pretty sure it will be in human rights," Nieuwenhuis said. "I am very interested in the historical and cultural backgrounds of current day conflicts and human rights violations."
Nieuwenhuis began her internship in early February and will continue through the middle of April.
Grace Zokovitch is an intern working primarily in administration and communications under the supervision of management assistant Noémie Deby. She is originally from the state of Florida in the USA, but spent last year traveling and working in a national service program called AmeriCorps NCCC, addressing issues related to the environment and urban development on the West Coast of the United States. her work at Pax Christi International includes planning for the Annual General Membership meeting in Arras, France in April; assisting with the development of Pax Christi International's digital platform; and assisting with the Young Peace Journalists project.
"I’m looking forward to continuing to build skills, collaborate with the staff here, and learn more about the organisational areas of emphasis," Zokovitch said.
Zokovitch began her internship in late-January. Once her internship is over at the end of April, she is planning on going to university to study journalism.
The Pax Christi International office welcomes Nieuwenhuis and Zokovitch and is grateful for their contributions to our work.
