Pax Christi International together with its members endorses interfaith statement on nuclear weapons presented today at the UN in Geneva

25/4/18 - Pax Christi International together with its members PAX, Pax Christi Australia, Pax Christi USA and Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns has endorsed a statement by faith communities on nuclear weapons that has been delivered today at the Preparatory Committee for the 2020 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The NPT is taking place from 23 April to 4 May 2018 at the UN in Geneva. The statement was coordinated by Soka Gakkai International (SGI) and has been presented by Hayley Ramsay-Jones, representative of the SGI UN office in Geneva. One of the key messages in the statement is that we strongly urge all states to sign and ratify the nuclear weapons ban treaty, one of Pax Christi International advocacy priorities. Our disarmament representative, Jonathan Frerichs, is present on behalf of Pax Christi International as well as representatives from Pax Christi Flanders and PAX. Together with other civil society representatives they are talking to government representatives promoting the joining of the treaty.
