Pax Christi International organises with the Quakers an EU advocacy exchange event with NGOs in Brussels

6/9/18 - Pax Christi International together with Quaker Council for European Affairs (QCEA) organised an informal EU advocacy exchange lunch for NGOs in Brussels on 28th August. The aim was to exchange with several NGOs on the challenges in our EU advocacy work while also looking at opportunities and actions for our future work.

Next to staff from Pax Christi International and the Quakers, participants were present from Saferworld, the International Alliance of Catholic development agencies (CIDSE), the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the EU (COMECE), the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office (EPLO) and 11.11.11.

The exchange started with discussing the challenges in advocacy work experienced by participants. Difficulties consist of finding, reaching and building sustainable relationships with policy-makers; identifying policy documents that can make a difference on the ground; and carrying out monitoring and evaluation.

Also opportunities were discussed for our work, among them a good coordination and vibrant civil society and networks; great networking and exchange possibilities in Brussels; well working and established participation of the civil society; and involvement of people directly affected by the issue from the field.

Follow-up exchanges will take place to further learn and be informed by each other on EU advocacy. To read more about the outcomes of the meeting please click on this link.
