from the National Commission for Justice and Peace

8/1/19 - On the occasion of World Day of Peace (1st January 2019), His Holiness, Pope Francis issued his Message entitled: “Good politics is at the service of Peace”. In his message, he appealed for peace and unity in world and expressed his regret over lack of unity around the world. He further said that politics is an essential source of building human community and institutions, but when political life is not seen as a form of service to society as a whole, it can become a means of oppression, marginalization and even destruction. It is to affirm the duty of each individual to acknowledge the reality and value of the freedom offered to him to work at one and the same time for the good of the city, the nation and for all mankind.

While reiterating the Message of His Holiness Pope Francis, the National Commission for Justice and Peace under the leadership of its Chairperson, His Excellency Archbishop Dr. Joseph Arshad emphasises upon this message for peace in Pakistan and appeals to politicians to unite their efforts for the common good of the country in the New Year.

Mr. Cecil Shane Chaudhry, Executive Director NCJP said that politics in Pakistan often challenge efforts for peace, however in the light of the message of the Holy Father we will sustain our efforts for the promotion of justice, equality, mutual respect and human rights.

Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Yousaf (Mani) National Director NCJP stated that peace can only prevail when the political powers aim only to protect the rights of all citizens equally, instead of serving the interest of few privileged individuals. Sound politics always creates acceptance for rights of the marginalised, social diversity and a true democracy.

His Excellency Archbishop Dr. Joseph Arshad, President of “Pakistan Catholic Bishops’ Conference” and Chairperson of NCJP, in his message on the New Year prayed for peace in Pakistan and in the light of the Message of Pope Francis appealed to the politicians to forget their differences and to synergize their efforts for peace and justice by honestly serving the people. He further stressed that all the politicians should work together to build a good human society and for the development and progress of our beloved country Pakistan.  He also wished all the nation a prosperous year ahead.
