North Korea-USA: Pax Christi International signs onto statement of principles on US-North Korea negotiations


28/2/19 - Prior to the Hanoi Summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong UN, Pax Christi International joined more than forty other organisations in offering our support for principled progress on diplomacy.

In addition to supporting a declaration to end the Korean war and opposing an unprovoked military attack on North Korea, the groups believe that the United States must offer concrete reciprocal proposals that coincide with any effort by North Korea to verifiably suspend and/or dismantle its nuclear weapons program.

The "Statement of Pro-Diplomacy Groups Regarding US Policy Toward North Korea" begins, "The United States has a rare opportunity to advance the twin goals of denuclearization and a lasting peace regime on the Korean Peninsula, commitments that the two nations made during their unprecedented Summit in Singapore in June 2018. With this in mind, pro-diplomacy organizations urge members of Congress to commit to the following principles as they relate to US-North Korea policy..."
