Mexico: Emergency humanitarian situation in Chiapas leads to massive displacement of indigenous peoples
Our member organisation in Mexico, Human Rights Center Fray Bartolome de Las Casas, AC (Frayba), has let us know that there is a humanitarian emergency in Chiapas due to massive displacements of Indigenous Peoples. Around 5,300 Tsotsil people have been forcibly displaced. There is a call to stop repression and to support our partner Frayba with humanitarian assistance for these people.
Our member organisation has told us that this is an antique land conflict between two towns, both belonging to the same indigenous group. The Church is mediating, but the most urgent is to respond to the emergency.
