Guatemala: Mutual Support Group calls upon government to prevent corruption

Pax Christi International member organisation, Mutual Support Group (Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo, or GAM) is concerned about the situation of political abuse in Guatemala. President Jimmy Morales’ brother and his oldest son are facing corruption charges.  This issue is very delicate because the former president and vice president had to resign because of corruption. According to their Facebook page, Mutual Support Group "strongly rejects the 'state of prevention' declared by President Jimmy Morales, which represents a return to the dark past that our country experienced during the bloody military dictatorships." Mutual Support Group is concerned that Constitutional guarantees should not be affected at the whim of the current government, and they demand that the state of prevention, which is only an opportunity for corruption and abuse of authority, is removed.
