France: Pax Christi France writes statement on French arms sales to coalition countries operating in Yemen

12/4/2018 - The conflict in Yemen is a multi-dimensional, ethnic, political and international conflict. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, at the head of a coalition, impose a severe blockade on countries and seek to triumph the party they support by conducting military operations against the opposing Houthie party. Yet it is the civilian populations who are being held hostage, in one of the most serious humanitarian crises in the world in recent years. 

In this context, the two NGOs Action of Christians for the Abolition of Torture (ACAT) and Amnesty International France have just published a report which concludes "that these arms sales contravene the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) and the Common Position of the European Union prohibiting the transfer of military equipment, in particular if there is a risk that they are used to commit war crimes."...
