CBCI India commemorates Romero Day
On 24 March 2014, the CBCI Office for Justice, Peace and Development, a Pax Christi International member organisation based in India, organised a Holy Mass in commemoration of the 34th anniversary of Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero’s assassination. This was the 4th consecutive Romero Day Observance that the CBCI Office for Justice Peace and Development, along with the El Salvadorian Embassy in New Delhi, has organised since 2011.
Welcoming the congregation which included the El Salvadorian ambassador to India Mr Gigermo Rubio and diplomats from various other embassies, Fr Charles Irudayam, Secretary, CBCI Office for Justice, Peace and Development, recalled that Archbishop Romero was assassinated because he was a prophetic witness to Gospel values, the values of the Kingdom of God. He hoped that the commemoration of Archbishop Romero’s martyrdom would foster in the people a passionate commitment to the cause of justice.
A report from the event, submitted by Rev Dr Charles Irudayam, Secretary of the CBCI Office for Justice, Peace and Development, can be accessed here.
