Canada: Pax Christi International sends letter to PM Trudeau for the creation of an Canadian ombudsperson to investigate extractive sector human rights abuses

Pax Christi International, with its members Pax Christi Montreal and Pax Christi Toronto and in support of our regional work in Latin America, has send a letter to the Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau to request the creation of an ombudsperson in Canada to handle the grievances of people affected by Canadian oil, gas and mining companies abroad.

As Pax Christi International knows through its work accompanying communities affected by extractive industries in Latin America and as a member of the Network for Churches and Mining (in Spanish: Red Iglesias y Minería), thousands of people and many communities would greatly benefit from access to an ombudsperson who would receive complaints and process cases related to problems created by Canadian companies.
