Austria: Pax Christi Austria organises International Jägerstätter-Commemoration to take place in August


29/5/19 - Pax Christi Austria has released their plans for the International Jägerstätter-Commemoration to take place on 8/9 August 2019 in St. Radegund and Tarsdorf, Upper Austria.

The commemoration will feature, “Challenger of Faith – the Blessed Restituta Kafka in Resistance”. Blessed Restituta Kafka (1 May 1894 – 30 March 1943) was a nun, resistance fighter against the Nazi regime, and martyr. Sister Mag. Dr. Ruth Beinhauer, Franciscan sister of Christian Charity (Hartmannschwestern) SFCC, Sorores Franciscanae a Caritate Christiana, will deliver a lecture. She is from Vienna, lived 12 years in Rome and is Vicepostulator for the beatification and sanctification process of her fellow sister Restituta Kafka. Pope John Paul II beatified Sister Restituta in Vienna in 1998 as the first Austrian martyr. In 2019 the 125th anniversary of her birth is commemorated. At the moment Sister Ruth is preparing the first edition of Sister Restituta´s letters from prison in Vienna.

The program is as follows: 

Thursday, 8 August 2019:

  • 6 p.m. evening prayer in the parish church of St. Radegund
  • 7 p.m. social evening in the restaurant Gasthaus Hofbauer with introduction of international participants

Friday, 9 August 2019:

  • 9:30 Lecture by Sister Mag. Dr. Ruth Beinhauer in the parish hall of Tarsdorf “Challenger of Faith – the Blessed Restituta Kafka in Resistance”
  • 12:00 Lunch
  • 13:30 pilgrimage on foot from Tarsdorf to St. Radegund
  • 16:00 Memorial service at the hour of death of Franz Jägerstätter in the parish church of St. Radegund, organized by Pax Christi Austria and Pax Christi Italy
  • 17:00 Meeting in the house of Franz Jägerstätter
  • 19:00 Reading of names of politcally persecuted people in 1934 - 1945 from Braunau and the region of Ostermiething on Jägerstätter Square in front of the parish church of St Radegund
  • 19:30 Mass
  • Candle light procession to Franz and Franziska Jägerstätter´s grave
