Yemen: Pax Christi France addresses the serious humanitarian crisis in Yemen

 

Pax Christi France has issued a statement on the serious humanitarian crisis taking place in Yemen. The statement reads, in part:

Since 2014 Yemen has been plunged into a civil war between government forces and Houthi rebels. This war quickly internationalised, with a coalition of 9 Arab countries taking sides with government forces against the Houthi, whom they accuse of being supported and armed by Iran. ... Today we are facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis: more than 10,000 civilians have been killed since 2015, an epidemic of cholera affects more than 600,000 inhabitants and seven million Yemenis are on the verge of starvation...

Pax Christi France, alarmed by the humanitarian consequences of the blockade (led by the coalition) for the civilian population of Yemen, calls for the immediate allowance of all humanitarian convoys intended to relieve the distress of the Yemeni people. Pax Christi France asks the French public authorities to implement all means necessary to achieve this result, before any other political considerations...
