Italy: Pax Christi Italy Bishop-President questions naming St. John XXIII patron of the Italian army

It has been made known to us that St. John XXIII will soon be proclaimed Patron of the Italian Army, having participated in World War I.

As President of the Italian section of Pax Christi, the International Catholic Movement for Peace, I find it disrespectful to involve as Patron of the Armed Forces the Pope who denounced every war with the encyclical 'Pacem in terris' and initiated the Council which, in the Constitution 'Gaudium et spes', condemns total war, as in fact are all the wars of today...
